Shannon Bushnell (LMT, BA, CHt, CYT-500, CPC) is a Licensed Massage Therapist and 2018 graduate of Bodymechanics Massage School. She specialized in injury treatment because receiving regular massage over the past two decades allowed her to experience amazing healing for herself, and she wanted to share that potential with others.
Shannon is a current resident of Shelton, WA, born and raised in Bremerton, & spent 23 years in Olympia. She loves hiking, cooking and reading. Her boyfriend is teaching her to play pool & golf. Shannon credits him, her family & friends for helping make her business dream a reality.
Shannon is honored to co-locate primary business operations in Shelton alongside Balance Day Spa, Railroad Tap Station, ISH, Painted Heart, and Gossamer Skincare. She’s delighted to join fellow massage practitioners at award winning Steamboat Health & Wellness in Olympia (call 360-866-6479 to book a session at this convenient satellite location).
After massage school graduation, Shannon attended a continuing education course on Massage Instruction with her teacher Shari Aldrich, resulting in a 2018 position as Teaching Assistant for Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology. That same year she was a founding tenant practitioner at the beautiful Wellness Center at True Self Yoga in Olympia, and provided massage as an employee for a well known pioneer in the field, Organic Wellness.
In 2019 Shannon received specialized training in two advanced forms of massage. Intraoral (with Lauren Christman) to treat TMJ and more. Shannon is one of the few therapists in the area still offering this essential service post Covid 19. The other game changer for her career was training in Meridian Massage, aka Tui Na, (with Lin Hsieh), a Chinese medical massage which stimulates the flow of Chi to promote balance & harmony using many of the same principles of acupuncture & acupressure.
In 2020 Shannon moved to Shelton & worked for local favorite chiropractors Sarah & Mitch Newman, assisting injured drivers, workers and more. During the transition from employee to business owner, Shannon provided mobile massage for select clientele, and obtained a job with Telecare Corp as Recovery Specialist. She trained as a Peer Counselor & Recovery Coach, skills she uses daily. Shannon is part of a coaching community blazing a trail to offer these services to a wider clientele under a private pay independent business model.
Serving trauma survivors skillfully has been a special interest of hers since she worked as an Advocate at Safeplace Olympia in the early 2000’s.
From there she gained her initial experience working with the poor where social and health services meet. One highlight was working for Behavioral Health Resources in their outpatient Program for Assertive Community Treatment. She served folks experiencing both mental health & substance abuse challenges. Then later as an in home caregiver for the elderly and younger adults with developmental disabilities. Those 24 years in social and health services are applicable to her current work because it involves welcoming a diverse clientele, listening compassionately & creative problem solving. Shannon has always felt her clients are her greatest teachers so she has sought positions that dont require an advanced degree but rather utilize on the job training and egalitarian ways of relating. One such method is BodyMind Bridge.
She was certified in this non clinical type of hypnotherapy by her highly esteemed kinesiology teacher at the innovative BodyMind Bridge Institute. She completed their cutting edge program in 2022. She’s delighted by the healing potential offered by this trauma-informed method of guided self-inquiry.
Although she has not received any formal voice training, Shannon has been told her voice has a naturally relaxing quality that invites you to let go of stress & access your inner wisdom. Her life experiences and resume in professional crisis intervention, have taught her how to be present, aware & take effective action in challenging situations. This helps create a sense of safety when accessing sensitive areas located in deeper layers of the body-mind.
Turning Tide PLLC is uniquely equipped to deliver an effective system for holistic rehabilitation and recovery. We use an integrative and client centered approach.
Shannon’s vision and ambition is made possible by her yoga & meditation practice. She’s been studying since 1999 and certified as a teacher with Radiant Health Wellness since 2005. She’s grateful to her primary teachers Joanna Cashman and Mady Sharma for lighting the initial steps on this path. Radiant Health Wellness of Eugene Oregon is credited with gifting Shannon the immeasurable lifelong gift of an interest and skills in yoga practice. In recent years she advanced her studies to the 500 hr level at Firefly Yoga in Olympia. Lisa Cosmillo makes yoga truly accessible to all and she offers the best place to practice currently in Olympia. Shannon taught there, at Wild Grace Arts & Olyyoga. In 2008 she completed a rigorous 10 day silent meditation retreat in the Vipassana tradition. Shannon also trained to become a Reiki Master at Reiki Ranch in Lewis county in 2018. Since all of her current yoga instruction is one on one, she highly recommends Joonbug Yoga in Shelton for classes.
The wisdom gained from these practices infuses her work like a quality cup of loose leaf tea enlivens water. As the tides ebb & flow, may these offerings nourish you in new ways at different phases of life. Shannon looks forward to supporting you on your journey toward wellness. Namaste
