Abbie graduated from the NW Academy of the Healing Arts in Seattle WA, with an emphasis in orthopedic and clinical massage. She promotes mental and physical wellness through therapeutic massage focused on long term pain prevention and management. Prior to moving to Virginia in the summer of 2014, 90% of her clients were insurance clients under the care of a referring physician for pain or stress management. She has continued her education with an emphasis on massage for athletes and a new fascia and structural integration method called LIFT (Ligament Influenced Myofascial Technique). She has been licensed in the states of Washington, Wisconsin and Virginia and is a member of the ABMP and NCTMB. Prior to launching her massage career, Abbie graduated from Indiana University in 2000 with a BA in psychology and sociology. Abbie sees movement as meditation and believes that physical health & body awareness lead to mental health and personal growth. She has always pursued endeavors that promote personal development through active lifestyles. As someone who plays daily, Abbie knows that a pain-free body can be liberating. She has worked in the Outdoor Industry as a guide, facilitator and program developer with a personal passion for adventure travel, rock-climbing, swimming, snowboarding and hiking with dogs. She specializes in medical, therapeutic and sports massage, in addition to practicing deep tissue, relaxation and pregnancy massage. Her favorite techniques involve myofascial work, muscle energy techniques, and neuromuscular re-education to increase range of motion and reduce pain. Abbie bounced around the Midwest, Australia and the West Coast before settling in the New River Valley and is excited to bring LIFT (Ligament Influenced Myofascial Technique) to the East Coast. Don't be surprised if she incorporates movement into your session. When not at work, Abbie can frequently be frolicking outside with her golden retriever.
