Welcome to the first step of helping your body become healthier, more functional, and more pain free. My name is Matthew Sias, I have been studying the human body for over a quarter of a century. During that journey, I have received a bachelors degree in exercise science, worked as a certified personal trainer (1999-2018), and have received my license as a massage therapist. How and Why I Became A Massage Therapist As a personal trainer, the quest to help others become stronger and healthier helped me discover the importance of making sure my clients' bodies can safely handle the movements (exercises) I prescribed them. An integral part of that process was a Functional Movement Screening (FMS). Any imbalances found on the tests were corrected through a variety of movement stretching, progressive exercises, and even basic tissue manipulation (i.e., massage). For the first few years of successfully making corrections from the screenings, the most surprising results came from basic tissue manipulation. While the results were often amazing, my knowledge and qualifications for improving muscle balance through tissue manipulation was insufficient. When results were too limited, or when pain was involved, sometimes I had to refer clients out to other professionals. Though I knew referring to someone else was the right thing to do for my clients, I struggled to do so because I wanted to be the one who helped my clients, not have someone else do it. I decided that the next step would be to become a massage therapist. My massage schooling, a holistic-approach to massage therapy, taught me compassion, connection, and presence that allows me to give a part of myself to each client. Soon after graduating, I became a licensed massage therapist (LMT) through the state of Tennessee. My thirty years experience of studying the human body can help you move toward a life of becoming healthier, more functional, and more pain free. I hope you will join me in an experience of healing your body and mind through massage and bodywork. Looking forward to meeting you!
