Bridging the mind/body connection The physiological and psychological human experiences have evolved to the point that most people feel and think of them as separate experiences rather than parts of a whole. In Layman’s Terms: People think their emotional experiences/ailments are separate and unrelated from their physical experiences/ailments, and vice versa. Not Quite. I help clients bridge the gap between the body and mind and coach them on learning how to listen and understand the language our bodies speak to us. Stress-related ailments come in all forms, but often present as headaches, neck and shoulder pain, back pain, etc. My hope is that by creating the space for clients to relax, they may begin to realize their innate potential for healing and positive change. I’ve learned that INEVITABLY, our bodies keep the score— Our bodies carry not only our physical weight but the weight of our past emotional baggage, especially if unresolved or unknown. ~Education/Experience~ I spent 10 years working and studying in the field of mental health. I worked in various counseling type positions, leading up to clinical counseling with families and crisis counseling after I’d completed grad school. While I enjoyed the work immensely, I always knew I would eventually return to bodywork. I love therapeutic massage for the amazing ways it helps people heal or find relief from a multitude of conditions. My work, studies, and personal life experiences have helped me realize the incredible ability for the body to self-heal given proper nurturing. I am passionate about sharing this knowledge and hope, to those who seek it, in order to help them help themselves in the most holistic way possible. "Physical self-awareness is the first step in releasing the tyranny of the past... The mind needs to be reeducated to feel physical sensations, and the body needs to be helped to tolerate and enjoy the comforts of touch. Individuals who lack emotional awareness are able, with practice, to connect their physical sensations to psychological events. Then they can slowly reconnect with themselves.” ― Bessel A. van der Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma
