Jessie Thompson OBMT # 13636 (she/her/they/them) specializes in injury recovery, pain management, Sports Massage, Stretch Therapy, Deep Connective Tissue Release, and Auto Related Injuries. An expert in her field, she graduated from East West College of the Healing Arts, after completing the 801-Hour massage therapy program between 2004-2006 and has been Licensed by the Oregon Board of Massage Therapy since 2007. Jessie is an advocate of collaborative care having worked with Physical Therapists, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, and other healthcare professionals throughout her career. Her slow, intentional bodywork integrates Western & Eastern techniques to exact lasting change in the body resulting in improved health and wellbeing complemented by education. Jessie aims to empower her clients healing process by increasing their self-awareness through self-care education and helping them feel relaxed, refreshed, and at home in their bodies. Having honed her craft as a healer for nearly two decades she successfully addresses each client’s concerns with a wholistic approach by joining an acute understanding of Medical Massage, Western Science, & Athletic Movement with Eastern Meridian & Chakra Systems, Reiki, and Trauma-Informed Care. Jessie has enjoyed working with all levels of athlete from the weekend warrior to professional athletes, such as the Portland Pilots Soccer Team, Portland Trail Blazers, and Red Bull Airforce Skydiving Team. With a focus on injury recovery, pain management, and athletic performance, she works slowly with intention to manipulate deep connective tissues in the body; successfully calming the nervous system, relieving pain, and restoring function and mobility to her clients. Specializing in neck pain, she has a gift for homing in on her clients’ problem areas no matter where they are and exacting change in the soft tissue to resolve them, while continuing to give attention to the body as a whole. A Professional Skydiver and member of the Project 19 Women's Skydiving Network team with over 4500 jumps, multiple World & State Records for Largest Vertical Skydiving Formations, Jessie knows just how much can truly be accomplished in a short amount of time through focus, intention, awareness, and teamwork. As an athlete who has recovered from injuries, and a human being who has faced fear and survived trauma, Jessie considers the influence of human emotions and how they are stored in the tissues; think muscle memory. She finds this aspect of her awareness as a healer to be particularly relevant regarding regaining trust in the body post injury, and in cases of chronic pain & stress management. An advocate of mental health, she encourages her clients to also tend to their emotional body in creative ways, when relevant; and finds that bodywork can be a helpful tool to shift paradigms and perspectives, when used in tandem with established mental health therapy. In her words, “The body is a miraculous healing machine and when we learn to listen to the language of the body, we can create, or change, habits that will give it what it needs to function properly; allowing us to move through life as the best version of ourselves, at home in our bodies, and with awareness of what an amazing vessel we are each living with. We don’t have to live in pain if we learn to listen, breathe, and meet ourselves where we are with compassion.” When she is not holding space for others to heal, she can be found exploring the Pacific Wonderland, practicing yoga, running, dancing with fire poi, training in the sky or indoor wind tunnel, or working behind the scenes on operations and marketing plans for her developing Community Health Center, Yyoma Health. Jessie moonlights as a Massage Therapy Billing Specialist for Auto Insurance Claims. She provides free client advocacy coaching by appointment as well as Insurance Verification, Treatment Billing, and Records Requests for those recovering from auto-related injuries. She enjoys helping clients navigate the sometimes stressful and confusing medical claims process while promoting the medical viability of massage and bodywork.
