Lisa has a passion for assisting the body in self healing and believes strongly that given the right tools, the body can do miraculous things. Lisa graudated from the University or Akron with a BA in Family and Child Development with the intention of pursuing her Masters in Social Work. During her studies she discovered a tumor and was diagnosed with a very rare untreatable breast tumor that if given the chance to metastasize would end her life with in a few years. Shortly after the diagnosis she began to have severe digestive issues that affected her everyday life. She was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and was given no treatment and sent on her way. Luckily Lisa is a problem solver and saw these health issues as a challenge she could face head on and work towards finding a solution. She began reading everything she could get her hands on that might help her conditions. She began cutting out most foods and realized that certain foods irritated her IBS and left her feeling awful. She learned about probiotics and her digestion slowly began to improve. At this point she met her soon to be husband. After the wedding Lisa moved to Toronto, Canada. Her husband introduced her to the world of alternative healthcare and this changed her life forever. She began getting monthly massages, osteopathic manipulations and began seeing a Naturopathic Doctor who put her immediately on a detox diet. This diet was the most amazing thing to Lisa. After 30 days of cutting out all inflammatory and highly allergenic foods her digestion became normal! She began to gain much needed weight and started to feel more like her old self. During her 1st year of marriage Lisa had a partial mastectomy for another tumor and attended a wellness clinic in Florida were she was treated with alternative therapies for cancer. Lisa went home feeling wonderful and after much research followed the protocols of the Gerson Method.
After a year of marriage Lisa and her husband desired to grow their family. Unfortunately this proved to be very difficult for them. After 3 years of infertility Lisa went to a fertility clinic who diagnosed her with infertility with unknown causes. The clinic would not allow to any IVF treatments due to the hormone medications that may affect her cancer. They recommended cycle monitoring. Lisa found the process of every other day internal ultrasounds and blood work to be exhausting and took a large toll on her emotionally. Following one of her appointments at the fertility clinic Lisa found that she struggled to walk. Her legs became completely stiff and immobile. This began a year of severe pain in her legs and pelvic floor leaving her barely able to walk or drive. She went to specialist after specialist and so many tests with doctors confused by her symptoms. Finally she found a doctor that she drove 3 hours to see that diagnosed her with Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. He told her it was a psychosomatic condition which means the body was" guarding" itself from a painful experience. Years of infertility, multiple miscarriages and the sorrow of each cycle monitoring appointment was like her body was screaming that enough was enough! So this doctor recommended gabapentin to relax the mind and recommended physical therapy. A few years ago Lisa was trained and licensed as a massage therapist so she took it upon herself to study PT courses and began to treat herself. She also sought the help of various PTs and even took a trip from Canada to Florida to a physical therpay clinic that offered an intensive treatment to assist in reducing her pain and relaxing her muscles. Slowly she began to get her life back and was able to walk and even began running.
During her year of healing Lisa enrolled in the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition where she spent the next years learning all there is to know about Holistic Nutrition. She began from scratch cooking and enjoyed the challenge of baking and cooking in ways that suited her body type. Lisa and her husband were still very much praying for children so she began seeing a pracitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine as she was told acupuncture can help with fertility. Within 2 months of getting acupuncture weekly she became pregnant. Unfortunately, Lisa lost the baby at 10 weeks. Although Lisa was devastated she became very curious about how quickly she was able to become pregnant this time so she read any books she could get her hands on about Chinese Medicine. In college, Lisa took many courses in Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Bio and Organic Chemistry but none of the courses ever interested her in the way she thought they would. As she learned more about Traditional Chinese medicine she knew this was the medical care she wanted to learn. One that looks at the body as a whole.
Over the next 2 years Lisa became pregnant 4 more times, losing each baby in the first trimester. Though these losses were difficult for her and her husband, she did not give up hope that one day she would have a baby to hold in her arms. In 2017, Lisa decided it was time to change her career path yet again and she enrolled in the Florida College of Integrative Medicine to study Traditional Chinese Medicine. Lisa and her husband moved to Orlando, Florida. Lisa began classes right away and a month into her program she realized she was pregnant again. One of her professors began acupuncture and herbs right away and Lisa went for weekly treatments. Nine months later Lisa gave birth to a healthy baby boy. She delivered him ceserean section as the baby had a few complications right before delivery. Lisa continued weekly acupuncture treatments and herbs and a year a half later gave birth to a baby girl via vaginal birth after cesearean(VBAC). She had a healthy uneventful pregnancy and a quick and easy delivery.
Remarkably, 3 months after her baby girl was born Lisa found out she was pregnant again. This came as quite a surprise to a woman who struggled for 10 years with infertility and miscarriage! There were some complications with this pregnancy. Lisa was diagnosed with Complete Placenta Previa. Lisa went straight to her DOM ( Doctor of Oriental Medicine) and she explained to Lisa not to worry that acupuncture and tonifying herbs can move the placenta. And so it did. Lisa went to see her DOM a few times a week and by the end of the 2nd trimester the placenta had moved away from the cervix and by the 3rd trimester it had moved almost to the top of her uterus. Lisa was elated to be able to deliver her baby VBAC as she did her daughter. Lisa became even more amazed by Chinese Medicine.
Lisa became one of the first women in her hospital to have had 2 successful vaginal births after cesearean. Since the birth of her children Lisa found her pelvic floor to weaken causing stress incontinence and organ prolapse. She also found out she had Diastasis Recti. Again, Lisa saw this as an opportunity to learn and registered for a course by the well known Sarah Duvall's PCES course( Pregnancy and Post Partum Exercise Corrective Specialist). Lisa has been studying this physical therapy course and hopes to soon take the test to become certified and help other woman and men with pelvic floor and Diastatis. She also has completed 2 trainings in Jean Pierre Barral's Visceral Manipulation, which can assist the body in healing from trauma and many health disorders.
Lisa left her TCM
school in FL to stay home to raise her 3 babies and moved to
Cleveland, Ohio to be closer to her family. Right before her move she
discovered that her daughter was suffering from around 40 food
intolerances that were greatly effecting her daughters mood. She
became trianed in NAET ( Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination
Technique). During this training Lisa learned the importance of
trauma and its relation to allergies as well as how PTSD can be found
in people of all ages. This peaked her interest again and she began
to research and explore more about trauma and how the body manages
stress. She is currently training in John Updleger's Craniosacral
Therapy. Lisa also has decided to resume her education in Traditional Chinese Medicine part time to complete her doctor of chinese medicine.
All of these events in Lisa's life has helped her find a confidence in her body that she did not have before. She has realized the body's innate ability to heal, its desire for whole foods for nourishment, the incredible power of the mind and how trauma can affect the entire body in ways we are just discovering.
