I have been a practicing NYS licensed massage therapist since 2010, a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner since 2015, and a business owner since December 2015 - I absolutely love what I do. I enjoy working with people of all ages, genders and ability levels, no matter their story. Each individual has amazing potential to improve and become more comfortable in their incredible body. I love seeing the changes my work can ignite in people as they discover that they can be in control of their own comfort, health and happiness in their lives. I strongly believe that the solution to one's health is not outside of themselves, but may simply need the right support and guidance to begin to emerge. Whether you have come to rely on this potential in your own body, or this is a new concept for you, I am here to serve and support you. It is my intention to guide your body to a place where it can learn to resolve its own pain more quickly. I can tell you from my experience, this place is kind and comfortable, and the more you become aware of your body, the more possibilities will open to you. My clients often come to me with chronic or acute pain, or limited range of motion. My work not only addresses these issues at hand, but also begins to unravel the story of the pain. Although it may be simply face value, more often than not, there are a number of factors which contribute one's circumstances for injury and pain. Through movement, I communicate with an individual's nervous system about how their restrictions may be serving them. I also use this time to introduce variety into their action, in a functional manner, so that their nervous system may discern and integrate the changes for itself. I have found that these changes are much longer lasting as they are learned by the system and not simply changed without its awareness. Change is great on the massage table, but if the changes are not functional in your world, there is no way your body is going to integrate them. I work with athletes young and old, weekend warriors, men, women, people struggling with anxiety and depression, people dealing with loss or change and lots of people with busy lives who need a space to experience deep relaxation. My work is direct yet nurturing. My specialty is deep tissue massage, influenced strongly by the Feldenkrais Method and with notes of myofascial release, neuromuscular trigger point therapy, Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy, and Reiki. However my session is always custom tailored to my client and I can deliver effective sports massage, post-natal massage, traditional swedish relaxation massage and Feldenkrais Functional Integration. In addition to my bodywork, I teach Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement classes to groups of all sizes, which explore functional relationships in the body as well as learned tendencies of an individual and how these affect their functioning and efficiency. I own a private practice, Saratoga Awareness, located in Saratoga Springs, NY. A little more about me: I grew up in Saratoga Springs, NY and was drawn to study Massage Therapy straight out of high school. I always excelled at science and craved knowledge. My inquisitive mind never stopped and my science teachers seemed to appreciate and foster that curiosity. Being a student of science and always having an interest in my own body, Massage Therapy seemed like the logical choice of study. I attended Morrisville State College in New York 2008-2010 where I obtained my Associates of Applied Science Degree in Massage Therapy and graduated with a 4.0 GPA and high honors. Soon after graduation, my eagerness was recognized and I began practicing under a limited permit before I even sat for my NYS board exam to secure my licensing. I quickly moved up the ranks in the business and was soon General Manager with charge over 15 staff of LMTs and had seen the business expand to 3 locations. I worked here for 5 1/2 years before starting my own business in December 2015. In 2011, I began a training that would change my life. I knew that becoming a Feldenkrais Practitioner was the next step in my journey. For the next four years, I was a member of the NYC5 Feldenkrais Practitioner Training Program at the Feldenkrais Institute in Manhattan. As I progressed though my training, I continued to work full time as a LMT, however my work began to change immensely. My outlook changed, my curiosity grew, my satisfaction with 'what is' and amazement at what is possible were completely uprooted. Everything became more interesting, an opportunity to learn. Not only did I experience self-growth, but I also began to see my clients differently. I began to understand that many of the limitations that humans perceive or experience are learned, often in completely accidental circumstances, and have the potential to be relearned with greater variety, efficiency, ease, comfort, acceptance, etc. I grew to so appreciate this amazing dynamic and self-regulating body we live in. Though I had learned all of its' parts and functioning in the anatomy & physiology, myology, neurolgy, pathology and even eastern medicine classes of massage school, we did not see it (or at least I did not) as something living... something ever changing, and ever capable of changing. I find this so exciting. I am captivated by furthering my learning into the human body and its functioning. I love sharing my learning with my clients and the message that change is possible, because we are all in this together!
Go on, be a good friend and share MassageBook with them. They'll love you for it.
