I'm Sally B and I believe massage therapy is the ultimate preventive care and early detection model, when coupled with other healthy lifestyle choices like a thoughtful diet and regular movement. I'm so happy you're here! My goal is to help people stay moving as well as help people through all levels of recovery and rid the world of chronic preventable issues. This is my story: Simply put, massage therapy could have prevented years of chronic pain, fatigue, depression, and thousands of dollars spent looking for treatments for me. I wanted to pursue massage therapy since 2002 after dropping out of aviation school shortly after 9/11. The timing never seemed to work out due to finances and a world of other reasons, but it turns out the universe needed to "show me" and teach me a variety of perspectives and experiences. Overcoming chronic physical ailments is a lot of work and a lot of frustrating dedication. Recovery seldom goes in a linear progression and often uncovers other symptoms along the way. It can be incredibly frustrating and often a contributing factor in depression and anxiety. Western ideals of treatment (in my many years of experience) seldom take into account the whole body, lifestyle, and various other contributing factors. The focus tends to be directly to the area of complaint which is not always the cause of the problem. Rather than prevent or correct the issue, the thought process is typically to alleviate symptoms temporarily by medicating. For example, I struggled with low back pain and SI joint issues for over 10 year so severe that I couldn't walk some days and just bending slightly was enough to bring tears to my eyes. I was given injections into those joints 3 times which didn't resolve the issue. I was referred to physical therapy where I was provided the same physical workouts that I was already doing at the gym that caused more pain. I was tested for a variety of underlying diseases and issues, etc, etc. Finally, I was referred to a pelvic floor therapist that identified the issue was muscular. After 6 months, twice a week, of getting a gluteal massage from the pelvic floor therapist, my issues were diminishing. The contributing factors were compounding over years After all of the suffering, it could have all been prevented with regular massage therapy.
