John’s career in healthcare began in public health as a Peace Corps volunteer in rural Paraguay where he taught nutrition and dental health and helped to improve the water supply and sanitation of the rural community to which he was assigned. He went on to help advance the global efforts of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, and partner organizations to address HIV/AIDS, polio, and Guinea worm disease in sub-Saharan Africa before embarking on his holistic health journey. John’s holistic health training includes apprenticeship with Ghanian and Cameroonian herbalists, the completion of four western herbal certificate programs, a three-year Tibetan Medicine studies program delivered by Dr. Pasang Arya, the former director and professor of Tibetan Medicine at the Men-tsee-khang Tibetan medical college in Dharamsala, India, the study of the fundamentals of Taoist internal alchemy under the guidance of the Taoist arts professor and researcher Dr. Dan Vercammen of the China Arts College, Antwerp, Belgium and completion of the Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine’s four-year acupuncture program. John holds a Master of Public Health degree from Emory University and a Doctorate of Public Health degree from Boston University and is a North Carolina licensed acupuncturist and massage therapist and certified advanced emergency medical technician.
