Myofascial trigger point therapy isn't a massage in the traditional sense. It is a modality that directly deals with pain and dysfunction in the body caused by myofascial pain. Myofascial refers to muscle tissue and the connective tissue that is in and all around it. Muscles and fascia are not separate entities. They work together. When this becomes stressed and injured, trigger points can form and cause contraction that results in pain and tightness and a reduction in range of motion. If a muscle is not functioning properly, it will not strengthen or stretch effectively. Releasing the trigger points that cause pain allow the muscle fibers to expand and contract effectively and heal the source of pain.
Pain is an indicator of dysfunction. Where the pain is most often differs from where the trigger points are.
Everything is connected; fascia, nerve roots and muscles etc always rely on other areas of the body to function properly. Pain in the arms, hands or shoulders can have trigger points in the neck. Heel pain is often caused by trigger points in the calves and maybe it is a compensation for dysfunction of the knee or hip. There are many possibilities.
If you suffer ongoing muscle pain, book your appointment now and find relief. Trigger point therapy is effective in treating plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, knee pain, hip, back, foot pain and headaches to name only a few.
You will be assessed for range of motion and Morton's foot, which also predisposes individuals to myofascial pain throughout the whole body. Expect to learn self treatment techniques and stretches. For this reason the first appointment is a mandatory 90 minutes.
Please wear comfortable clothing and a tank top, shorts or yoga pants for your session.
