Relief From Neck and Shoulder Pain
Hi! My name is Cynthia Volkmann, I've been a Licensed Massage Therapist for over 25 years and am now the proud owner of Des Moines Therapeutic Massage.
My journey into massage began when I was young and used to massage family and friends at various events. Since age 19, I have been battling muscle and joint pain due to a motorcycle rollover accident, so I understand the frustration of not being able to do what once came so easily.
Five years after the accident, a friend inspired me to go to massage school, and I immediately knew that I belonged to this group of healers. Then in 1994, I graduated from Brenneke School of Massage in Seattle and soon after started my own geriatric massage practice.
Years later I developed an essential hand tremor and have had to re-learn normal activity. As a hands-on person who used to refinish antique wood furniture, and have played classical piano since I was seven, I had to stop doing the things that I love.
Since then, I have used regular exercise (read as gym rat), following a healthy diet (including copious amounts of seafood and chocolate, but not together), and consistent massage sessions to manage back pain, and body image.
In my free time I like to write, hike, listen to all kinds of music, and go to events to meet new people and make new friends.
People describe me as a breath of fresh air. I am kind and fun, and enjoy playing midnight jazz instead of spa music when I'm working.
