Robert Regan-Hughes, LMP is the owner and operator of Metta Therapeutic Massage, and has been providing excellent clinical therapeutic massage on Seattle's east-side for over 25 years. Initially trained at Brian Utting School of Massage, Robert has continued to learn and incorporate new bodywork methods and techniques over the last couple of decades into his own unique therapeutic approach that is highly effective.
Robert specializes in Clinical or Medical Massage, which is focused, specific, and directed toward rehabilitation of injured, strained, damaged or dis-eased soft tissue. Robert's primary objective with his clients and patients is to reduce pain, speed healing of damaged and injured tissue, reduce inflammation and improve circulation, as well as to increase range of motion.

Robert's primary objective with his clients and patients is to reduce pain, speed healing of damaged and injured tissue, reduce inflammation and improve circulation, as well as to increase range of motion.
Clinical massage works on these areas of the body:
- Muscles (fibrous tissue in the body that produces movement or maintains posture)
- Fascia (bands of connective tissue that hold the body together)
- Tendons (connect muscles to the bones)
- Ligaments (fibrous connective tissue that connects two bones or cartilages or holds together a joint)
Robert also specializes in Sports Massage and works with patients'
Physical Therapists, Chiropractors and/or physicians, in order to insure
the highest quality of care, and the quickest resolution to sports
injuries.
Athletes have a significant risk of injury, due to the
need for quick explosive movements, and the over-use of muscles which
can create structural imbalances. Robert helps athletes to maintain
high levels of performance by providing deep tissue manual massage,
active stretching to over-worked muscles and trigger point therapy, as
needed. Injured athletes benefit from his massage by recovering more
quickly, while non-injured athletes benefit by avoiding injury.
Massage therapy is one of the most important and helpful treatments following an auto accident or injury. After an accident or injury, the body immediately goes into protect and repair mode. As the trauma is processed, adrenaline and cortisol are released. This release of stress hormones serves an initial purpose to provide resources during a stressful situation and to aid healing, but over time can create ongoing inflammation, an increase in muscle tension, and a reduction in over-all functioning. Massage therapy helps to relax, lengthen and repair the musculature, while soothing the nervous system and sending a signal to the brain that it is safe to relax and repair. Massage also helps to lengthen shortened muscles, release trigger points and compressed nerves, relieve pain and muscle spasms, and improve range of motion.
His training in the field of bodywork includes:
- Deep Tissue/Manual Therapy
- Neuromuscular Therapy
- Manual Lymphatic Drainage
- Myofascial Release and Somatic Unwinding
- Cranial Sacral
- Reiki
- Sports Massage
- Reflexology
- Polarity
- Breathwork/Connected Breathing
