Welcome to Family First Massage and Bodywork
Hi, I’m Mary Wese, LMT, owner of Family First Massage and Bodywork. Massage was one of the tools I used to heal myself from adrenal fatigue and constant aches and pains. I know it will help you too! I am passionate about all things bodywork and natural healing. It's an honor to help you feel better!
Why should I get Prenatal massages?
To feel better of course! Pregnancy changes our center and gravity and causes other muscles to work in ways they are accustomed to working, causing tightness and pain. Massage relieves old and new aches and pains. The other great reason to get prenatal massages is to relieve stress. Higher cortisol levels are associated with chronic stress. Chronic stress affects our growing babies just like the quality of food we eat. When you de-stress, your baby does too. I recommend at least one massage per month or as needed for trimesters 1 and 2. Weekly or bi-weekly are recommended for 3rd trimester.
What is Arvigo Abdominal Massage Therapy and do you offer it?
Arvigo Abdominal Massage Therapy helps women with painful periods, pregnancy discomforts, abdominal tension, infertility, and digestive issues. I am a licensed Arvigo therapist. Many clients seek out Arvigo Abdominal Massage Therapy when medicine has seemed to fail them. You do not have to wait that long. If there is a struggle in your abdomen, give Arvigo Abdominal Massage Therpay a try!
Why should my partner get massages?
Pain and stress affect how we treat our partners. When we hurt, we can take it out on the ones who are closest to us. In short, massage can help your partner out of pain, lower stress levels and get rid of the “grumpies”.
Why would my child need massage?
Children have just as many reasons to receive massage as adults do. Sports injuries, lowering stress levels and body awareness are just a few reasons. I offer 30 minute sessions with children and parents are welcome to be in the massage room. We can tailor a session for your child and I am happy to send you, the parents home with skills to work on your own child.
What are those KNOTS?
I like to refer to them as God’s little blessings or like Spiderman’s web that’s attached to the brick wall. I view them as special centers of strong fascia that are holding your limbs securely to your body for you. So I say ‘THANK YOU KNOTS for holding this clients neck (or arm or leg) on her body! Let’s get her out of pain now”. In a session with me, you can expect no negative talk about your aches and pains. I will only express my gratitude that your body has done exactly what it has needed to do to keep your limbs in place and we will work towards better mobility, decreased pain and renewed joy!
What is Thai Massage and is it right for me?
Thai massage is a dynamic form of bodywork done fully clothed on a mat. What sets it apart from table massage is that the receiver is being moved, stretched and massaged. I use my hands, forearms, elbows, knees and feet as my massage tools. I recommend Thai massage for a client with an active lifestyle/spirit or does manual labor/factory work. It often helps to reset muscles that have been fixed to certain positions through their use. I would warn against receiving Thai massage if the client has high anxiety.
Do you offer classes for couples?
I do! I teach Couples Thai Massage workshops at The Juniper House. Learning how to help each other with aches and pains brings the healing power of massage into your own house, anytime you need it. This workshop invites couples to deeper trust and understanding of one another through bodywork and fun!
