Nakisha is passionate about helping people who are experiencing physical pain to help them achieve a better quality of life and become themselves again.
My Specialties:
I combine many modalities including Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, Structural Integration, Sports, and Trigger Point Therapy. I will pull from other modalities as well based on what your body needs to regain the range of motion and muscle relaxation that is specific to your body.
I am passionate about helping those who experience injuries or undergone surgeries, pains from work or daily environments, and those who have chronic pain conditions such as, but definitely not limited to Fibromyalgia, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJD).
My Why:
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I understand that it is a bit of a longer story, but I feel that it is important to express why I am passionate about what I do.
In fall of 2015, at the age of 19, I began to experience pain throughout my body. Over the next few years I was placed on bed rest, prescribed twenty-two medications, and was seeing a team of nine doctors. I felt helpless. I had gained a lot of weight, had no energy, and my body felt as though it was giving up under the constant pain. I was later diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in the spring of 2017. After continuing with the treatment plan for a while I felt as though I couldn't exist another day. Out of sheer desperation and exhaustion, I threw out my medications*, there was no turning back. After surviving the withdrawal symptoms, I began to look for alternative routes to taking back control of my life. I explored many options such as diet, exercise, mental imagery, herbal/natural medication, and many other options. I had learned so much about my body during this time but nothing seemed to be enough for me.
I had a thought saying, “You should try a massage!” and I laughed. Touch hurts, everything hurts, my body is sensitive. Why in the world would that be a good idea?! I continued to ignore the thought for a while but finally decided to give it a go. I found a massage therapist in my area that seemed to be a good fit for what I was looking for and booked a weekly sixty minute appointment for the next ninety days. The first few appointments went as expected: no change and it was uncomfortable. As we learned together about how my body responded and I continued to come in weekly. Over the course of the next several weeks my life changed. I could move easier, understand what my body needed, sensations were not as painful as they once had been, and the intensity of my headaches decreased exponentially. Massage gave me my life back.
Over the next year I continued my treatment along with strengthening my body, I wanted to give back. I signed up for school. My mind was opened! I discovered that not only am I passionate about helping others take back their life but also about the vast connections of the body, everything from the muscles and tendons to our holding patterns and repetitive actions to the mind and its influence on our body.
It is my dream to help others achieve the quality of life and give them tools that they can take into their daily lives to elevate their pain, discomforts, or range of motion frustrations. This can be anything from being able to pick up their kids again, walk up the stairs without that abnoxion nagging they get from their hip, or maintain their flexibility for a performance or competition. Whatever your fulfilling life looks like to you, I want to help and be a part of it. Thank you again for reading and I look forward to working with you!
*This is not medical advice. I do not recommend throwing out your medications as many medications may be dangerous to abruptly stop taking. If you have questions or concerns about your medicine or how massage may affect you, please contact your healthcare provider.
