Welcome to the functional massage therapy practice of Laura DeWald, a Maryland and North Carolina Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist (LMBT) with nearly three decades of experience. Having recently closed her thriving private practice at InnerBridge Wellness Center in Baltimore, MD she is now based in Carrboro, NC and thrilled to be working alongside other health professionals at the Balanced Movement Studio, serving clients of all ages across the Triangle region.
While her forte is in orthopedic massage and working with fellow runners and athletes, her integrative approach utilizes a wide array of manual therapy techniques and tools to address many types of conditions while providing relaxation. A typical session may involve: deep tissue and myofascial release work, facilitated stretching, active realease therapy, orthopedic cupping, scar release work, lymphatic drainage, zero balancing, orthobionomy and positional release work, joint mobilization, and muscle energy techniques. For certain issues, Gua sha tools and Kinesio taping will be applied to achieve increased mobilization of the tissues.
Her professional background also includes her first career as a civil engineer and she credits those problem solving skills to better understand the dynamic engineering of the body and using a ‘big picture’ approach.
Like her colleagues at Balanced Movement Studio, she believes that freedom of movement is a key to living healthier and improving the quality of life. Everyone is an athlete and including massage therapy as an integral facet to a healthy lifestyle will help to build a well balanced and healthy body.
