Shannon C. May is a Certified Massage Therapist, Bodyworker and Health Enhancement Coach in Aitkin MN. She prides herself on her ability to care and listen to the needs of others. Shannon is thoroughly trained in Medical Massage, Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue Massage, Acupressure, Reflexology, Trigger Point Therapy, Prenatal and Infant Massage, Geriatric Massage, Sports Massage, Motivational Interviewing and Clinical Health and Wellness Coaching. She believes in tailoring her work towards the individual needs of each client by using these multiple modalities to achieve optimum outcomes.
Shannon's career started in 2005 with a certification as a Massage Therapist from Sister Rosalind Gefre Schools and Clinics of Massage located in St. Paul, Minnesota. It was a 2year program focused on the medical aspects of massage and body therapy. She then moved to Aitkin, MN and immediately began therapy in a luxury spa in the Brainerd area. In 2006, she added working in a Health Club setting to further her work experience and within a year began laying the foundation to start her own massage therapy business. By 2009 she owned and operated her own business, In-Touch Therapy, and started training as a Life Coaching. In 2010 she had a Life Coach Certification under her belt and in 2014 she added a Clinical Health Coaching Certification through the Iowa Chronic Care Consortium to her toolbox. In March of 2019 Shannon had the honor of being invited to and graduated from the Blandin Community Leadership Program where she was recognized and a community leader. She has a great passion for learning and continues her education in the health and wellness field.
Shannon joined a partnership in 2010 and became a co-owner of The CAM Center, a Complementary and Alternative Medicine Center. In January 2016 she merged the CAM Center and In-Touch Therapy to become In-Touch Therapy (IN-TT) where she is the sole owner and operator of the business. She remains an active therapist and coach today.
Throughout the years she has had the honor to work with numerous people of all ages from infants to elderly. Common challenges she faces with her clients are headaches, back pain, chronic muscle tension, carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, personal injuries, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, scoliosis, neuropathy, lymphedema, fibromyalgia, anxiety, depression, difficult life changes, healthy eating and exercise habits and overall stress and chronic pain. Some of these challenges are physical, some are emotional and some are mental or psychological. No matter what type of personal struggle an individual may be experiencing, Shannon, in partnership with her clients, focuses her sessions on creating a change or a shift in the physical body along with empowering an individual towards personal growth, enlightenment and over all improved health and wellness. With her strong connection, nurturing touch, empathetic nature, passionate drive and medical approach, she has had hundreds of happy, satisfied clients over the years, many of whom still keep in touch with her today.
It is her belief that a great Massage Therapist and Health Enhancement Coach is someone who has open ears, eyes and an open heart. It is someone who focuses on empowering the client, someone who is well educated in their field of expertise as well as intuitive. Shannon is that someone. It is her belief that everyone has the power to heal themselves and with a little encouragement, support and guidance difficult situations can transform into enlightening experiences.
