Some work I’ve grown to LOVE:
I am a big shoulder gal! I loved learning all about the shoulders, and continue too. When people come in with shoulder pain, recovery, little tweaks, my brain instantly gets to work. Getting them moving correctly, gaining range of motion, feeling less tension or pain, is so rewarding!
Hip work is also so fun for me. We tend to carry a lot on our shoulders, but sometimes I think we forget how much our hips carry too. Muscles are so deeply connected, and seeing how they perform when someone first gets onto my table, versus the end of a session is really neat! I have specific techniques I do to really get those hips moving.
Cupping is another favorite of mine. Cupping is a wonderful tool in addition to massage. Massage provides a positive pressure where cupping is a negative pressure. Pulling the tissue up, and allowing better blood flow circulation, and faster recovery, among other benefits. It is something that requires a lot of hours in learning, and over time I look forward to learning even more techniques with voluntary movement/stretching to help on an even deeper scale. I use both silicone and plastic pump cups. Silicone is softer and a bit easier on the body whereas the plastic pump cups can be a little more intense depending the work. There is fixed cupping and moving cupping. Fixed is where they are placed and left for a little while, while moving is when they are guided along the body/specific areas. I have seen incredible benefits from using cups on clients, as well as getting regular cupping myself. It’s not for everyone, but never hesitate to ask to try and see how it feels. You’d be surprised!
