Hello! I'm Karli Shae Neutz, massage therapist at Shoka Therapeutics. I've been practicing massage therapy in Louisville, KY since 2019 when I graduated from Advanced Massage Therapeutics. I offer several modalities including Ashiatsu, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, stretching, and cupping. Each session begins with a conversation. I'll ask you several questions, and we will figure out which modalities are fitting for your particular situation. Not only is there variation in needs from person to person but also in the same individual from day to day. Our bodies are constantly changing, and it is my intention to meet you exactly where you are when you come to see me.
The modalities listed below can be used in a full body massage (scalp, front/ back of neck, chest, shoulders, arms, hands, abdomen, front/back of legs, hips/ glutes, back) or for targeted areas. Please reach me by phone call, text or email with any questions!
Ashiatsu
In the Japenese language "Ashi" translates to foot and "Atsu" pressure. Ashiatsu is a barefoot massage technique good for providing broad, deep pressure. This modality allows for long fluid strokes across the body and can be a good option for those seeking deep relaxation and pressure. Ashiatsu can be used in a full body massage with the exception of the face and abdomen.
Myofascial Release
Less elastic and hydrated than muscle, our fascia often becomes "stuck", limiting mobility and causing pain. Myofascial Release is a manipulative treatment that releases tension in the fascial connective tissue surrounding and connecting our muscles.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue massage goes beyond the outer fascial and superficial muscle layers to soften hard, hypertonic muscles. Regular deep tissue massage breaks up unneeded adhesions and tension developed in our daily movements, allowing our tissue to properly realign and heal itself.
Relaxing Swedish Massage
Long, gliding strokes are used to promote a state of relaxation and increase circulation.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points can be found throughout our bodies. These tender areas within the muscle belly, created over time by physical or mental stress, will refer a dully, achy pain to other parts of the body when pressure is applied. Though often painful during a session, trigger point therapy is effectively used to remedy chronic pain once seemingly incurable because its source is located in a different area of the body.
Stretching
Passive Stretching allows you to stay relaxed as we facilitate the stretch. Active Isolate Stretching (AIS) requires you to stretch as far as possible and allow us to push you a bit further. Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) involves your engagement of the muscle group intended to stretch, followed by relaxation and allowing us to complete the stretch for you. Stretching can be used throughout your massage or exclusively during your session.
Injury Recovery
For recent injuries, we use light & gentle movement to stimulate circulation and reduce swelling. For older injuries, the objective is to break down the haphazardly placed scar tissue causing pain and/or lost mobility, empowering your body to replace scar tissue in an organized fashion that runs with your muscle fibers and allows the range of motion experienced pre-injury.
Cupping
Cupping is a deep tissue technique where we use suction cups rather than skin to skin contact to lift the tissue. The cups can remain stationary on your body or moved about in a gliding motion, lifting rather than compressing your tissue. Cupping is a highly effective treatment for pain caused by nerve impingement such as sciatica and thoracic outlet syndrome.
