Aloha!
My name is Carla Villamor. I was born and raised in Nanakuli, Hawai`i. I went to high school in Honolulu and attended college at University of Hawai'i at Hilo. I was raised within an athletic family, so sports was year round activity. I also was a Hawaiian Studies Major at UHH, and am planted with local and cultural roots. I strive to be as pono and respectful in every aspect of my life, and am always open to anything new I can learn every day.
It was after my mother was diagnosed and treated for oral cancer that I had set out to become a dentist. I already had experience as an office manager in a local dental practice in Waimea, BIg Island, and also the specialty fields of dentistry such as endodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery. And that's where my adventure began and sent me to Vancouver, Washington. My "plan" was to finish some of my prerequisites for dental school, establish residency, and apply to dental school at University of Washington. Everything was going according to plan until I got into a car accident with a friend. The accident sent me to physical therapy, chiropractic treatment, and massage therapy for recovery. It was during my treatment my interest for massage therapy was sparked. At this time, the dental field was going through a transformation into "dental spas", and I knew I wouldn't be able to have a "punch clock" type of job to support myself while in dental school, and thought massage may be an avenue I could support myself AND be in the dental field at the same time. I asked my massage therapist about the field. She informed me that the income for massage therapy was decent, so I went for it!! I enrolled for massage therapy classes at Ashmead College in Vancouver, WA. And I took one of my dear friends, another "local girl", with me along for the ride. Again, everything was going according to plan until I learned half way through massage school that I was pregnant. I was disappointed knowing I wouldn't be able to handle dental school and a newborn at the same time as well as support us. BUT...massage school had its perks!! Because of my pregnancy I was able to get massages 2 times a week as a practice for prenatal massage at my school. My teachers were telling all their students about us pregnant students as homework for prenatal massage. I realized massage therapy was my calling. After graduation and taking the national exam, I returned home to Hawai'i so my son could be around family and grow up similar to the way I grew up and yes, on the west side of O'ahu as well. When I came home, I learned from my father the healing arts ran in our family and said my hidden talents stemmed from my grandmother and great grandmother. And so I am here to assist anyone with my touch to the best of my ability and the warmest of aloha. I realized massage is my true calling and keeps me in check personally, spiritually, and professionally.
