FASCIAL STRETCH
THERAPY (FST)
Fascial Stretch Therapy does more than just elongate muscles, it stretches the fascia (connective tissue) that surrounds and separates the muscles.
Imagine wearing a bodysuit that is one or two sizes too small – this is like having fascia that is compressed. Your muscles are unable to move to full capacity and thereby are also not as powerful as they could be.
Benefits of FST:
- Lasting flexibility.
- Assisted stretching can target muscles and reach positions that you are unable to on your own.
- Increased range of motion.
- May help prevent injury.
WHAT IS FASCIA
Fascia is connective tissue that wraps muscles and joints. It is a living, biological fabric, which directs the traffic of forces around the body, and responds and changes itself as forces change.
HOW STRETCHING DIFFERS FROM MASSAGE
Massage is a wonderful form of bodywork to aid with relaxation or to work out knots that have developed in muscles.
Fascial Stretch Therapy goes deeper than massage in that it loosens the connective tissue that lies deep within a joint (i.e. the hip joint).
You remain fully clothed during a stretch session. Please wear shorts and a loose t-shirt.
