Welcome to Ashley Sorensen Massage Therapy.
My Style:
I have extensive training in Mayofascial Release Therapy, Active Release Technique, Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, and often use silicone cups, hot stones, gua sha, and aromatherapy in my regular sessions unless otherwise specified. I consider my work to be slow, deep, and therapeutic, and take great care to hear you, tailoring each massage according to your needs.
My Background:
I grew up in Portland, Oregon and spent my youth and young adult life dancing for Oregon Ballet Theatre. It was here I gained a strong appreciation for the body, it’s capabilities, and it’s limitations. Having suffered a number of injuries early in my life, I left the world of ballet and started on a new path practicing and eventually teaching Hatha and Vinyasa yoga. I yearned to offer more for my students and contemplated both the acupuncture and chiropractic route. Hesitant of financial commitment, I decided to start with massage to confirm I actually enjoyed working on people (spoiler alert, I DO). What I found out was not only do I love working on and with people, I find it deeply fulfilling.
I moved to Hawaii to attend massage school and to study the ancient practice of Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage. In 2004 I started my own practice where it blossomed for the next 5 years. In 2007 I moved back to Portland and started working for a well knows spa where I discovered I enjoyed the environment, but not the factory-line type feel it had. In 2008 (yes that 2008) I left and started my own practice, where believe it or not, I thrived. In 2015 I opened my own Massage and Teahouse in the heart of Portland (still open today). In 2019 after 15 years of practice, I stepped away from massage after the death of my first son Adric from labor complications. In early 2020 I sold my business and worked on healing - still a daily practice. In 2021 my husband and I welcomed our second son, Hollis, and in 2023 a little girl, Wesley. I wasn’t sure when I would be going back to the work that I love so much, but when the opportunity at O’hara Chiropractic presented itself, I knew it was meant to be.
When not mothering two rambunctious kiddos, I enjoy making soap (www.sbsoapstudio.com) as well as magical fairy doors for the neighborhood (IG @goodlandfairies) I also love surfing, reading, and good cup of tea.
I am truly honored to be apart of your journey, and look forward to meeting you.
