The Trager Approach to Psychophysical Integration:
The Trager Approach is a form of bodywork developed by Milton Trager in the 1920s. It focuses on deep relaxation and uses gentle, rhythmic movements to release tension and promote a sense of freedom and ease in the body.
It uses no oil or lubricant. This modality is traditionally with base clothing kept on. There are two parts to a session: Mentastics movement and tablework.
Mentastics, refers to a series of simple, self-directed movements designed to promote body awareness, relaxation, and enhanced mind-body connection.
Mentastics are explored and created at the beginning of a session and become exercises often used as "recall" for clients to continue their progress outside of formal sessions. These exercises can include gentle movements such as rolling the shoulders, swaying the hips, or focusing on deep breathing while moving different body parts. The emphasis is on cultivating a sense of mindfulness and ease in movement, encouraging clients to explore their bodies' capabilities and release tension on their own.
By incorporating Mentastics into the Trager Approach, practitioners aim to empower clients to take an active role in their well-being and continue to experience the benefits of relaxation, improved posture, and reduced stress between sessions. This holistic approach addresses both physical and mental aspects of health and is often appreciated for its gentle yet effective methods of promoting overall wellness.
Overall, the Trager Approach aims to improve body awareness, relieve physical and emotional tension, and promote overall well-being. It's often used as a complementary therapy alongside other treatments for conditions such as chronic pain, stress, and muscular tension.
