As the daughter of a chiropractor I understand the necessity of both chiropractic and medical massage therapy, how they compliment each other and work together. I like to work medical, deep tissue , trigger point and Bowen technique, however, I can work lighter if that is what you need. I believe I am currently the Only therapist in the Anchorage area that is certified to work as a Bowen therapist. Bowen is an Australian technique used to smooth fascia and give the body a nudge to heal it's self. It is a lighter technique and also requires the therapist to work on one small area of the body at a time and then leave the room for at least two minutes while the body adjusts to the information the brain has sampled during the technique.
The body consists of muscles, fascia, nerve endings and energy pathways which communicate with one another. A talented therapist stimulates these systems to work together to restore balance.
A great deal of energy is lost in chronically tensioned muscles. One task of a good therapist is to free this energy and loosen up blockages. A body with chronically tense muscles has the same effect as attempting to drive a vehicle with the brakes on; the energy is used up many times over leading to exhaustion and becoming prone to illness.
The fascia in our body makes our muscular system work and provides interplay of the individual muscles. It gives muscles form, connects them to bone, and as ligaments keeps joints sturdy, but mobile. Every single muscle fiber is wrapped in fascia. Fascia attaches the inner organs to our skeletal structure, wraps them protectively and supplies a perfect cohesion. Together with the muscular system it supports the vertebral column and enables our erect posture. Fascia can be very solid as in the area of ligaments or be very loose in structure as in the area of glands. If you imagine it as a large web (it is web like, but micro-tiny) of plastic wrap and see it wrapped around soft cookie dough; you can also imagine how moving and tightening the wrap moves all the cookie dough out of shape, or how moving the cookie dough (muscles) also will move the fascia out of shape. The top of the hip bones are often a place moved fascia collects because of this and is one of the causes of low back pain.
I am so very much looking forward to meeting you and making your days healthy and happy; filled with less pain and more joy!
Please add yourself to my patient list, fill out the insurance and medical information and schedule an appointment. You can do that all here at this safe electronic health records site! If you would like your insurance to pay for your treatments, have your physician fill out a referral (also known as a prescription for medical massage) I have to have this in order to bill insurance. I am NOT authorized to make a diagnosis, and insurance billing will need one! Bring it with you to your appointment along with your insurance card. Right now I can bill TriWest (VA), Blue Cross/ Blue Shield and Aetna.
