FAQ's
Do I need to do anything to prepare for my appointment?
- Pay attention to your body. Take notes on areas that have been bothering you. Complete your intake forms, including all relevant observations and concerns.
- Hydrate! The more hydrated you are before your session, the more impact the massage will have in the days and weeks following your appointment.
Plan for rest time after your massage, ideally 24 hours. Resting means: no strenuous exercise, no sports, no running, no alcohol. DO consume healthy foods that fuel your recovery, and drink LOTS of water!
Why is consistent massage so impactful?
Our bodies are made of many different types of tissue. "Fascia" is a dense connective tissue or 'neuromuscular jelly' that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Fascia also holds a type of memory. When we have the same chronically tight muscles over long periods of time, it's because our fascia has learned a pattern of holding stress and tension in these same spots. To correct these chronic aches and pains, the memory patterns in our fascial system need to be disrupted, and ultimately reprogrammed and taught to NOT hold tension in these areas anymore. Routine bodywork provides an opportunity to realign and rehab the imbalances that our bodies develop over time, that often go uncorrected for years. Massage therapy is an exceptionally powerful way to heal the body and obliterate chronic aches and pains, but like any other type of therapy-- consistency is key. Sticking to a treatment plan is how we heal.
What is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and hypermobility?
- EDS arises from genetic mutations that impact collagen production, leading to weakened connective tissues. These disorders affect the body's ability to produce collagen, a protein that provides support and structure to various tissues like skin, joints, and blood vessels. EDS can manifest in various ways, including joint hypermobility, skin that stretches easily or bruises easily, and fragile blood vessels.
I have worked closely with a number of clients who have EDS and have consequently developed techniques specifically to improve their quality of life. Working through muscle stiffness and pain without exacerbating hyperflexive mobility and tendon issues will leave you feeling more balanced and secure in your body.
What is scar tissue massage?
Scar tissue is different than the other tissues in your body and can be found in everyone, even if you think you don't have any major surface level scars. Scar tissue is made from tightly coiled collagen fibers that ultimately end up creating a fibrous, acidic, and sticky tissue around healing injury sites. Scar tissue work only takes 5-10 minutes per treatment, which yields a decrease in scar tissue (and associated pain) of 30%! Scar tissue treatments continue to show 30% improvement for up to 5 sessions, after which point eventually there are diminishing returns. This powerful, highly effective work, will change the way you exist in your own skin, and how you connect with your body throughout the healing process.
Are there any discounts?
- Rebook discounts
- Rebook discounts are for appointments that are scheduled 4 weeks or less from your previous appointment. For 60, 90, or 120min sessions, the discounts are respectively $10, $15, and $20 off.
- Weekly discount
- If you come in weekly (or only skip 1 week per month), another $10 will be dropped from your total
- Cash discount
- If you bring cash to your appointment, another $10 will be dropped from your total
- Senior discount
- $10 off total for 65+, $15 off total for super senior discount for 75+
All above discounts are stackable! For example, if you come in every 3 weeks, you would be eligible for the rebook discount. If you want to pay with cash, you'll get the rebook discount + cash discount. If you come in every week AND pay cash, you would be eligible for all 3 discounts (rebook discount + weekly discount + cash discount). Total discounts can range from $10 up to $40 (for a 2 hour session).
Non-stackable discounts are listed below (if either these apply, they are the only discount allowed)(cash discount always allowed):
- Successful referral discount
- For every new person you refer to me who comes in for a visit, you'll receive half off the standard rate of your your next appointment. Tell whoever you send in to mention you as their referral.
- Birthday discount
Everyone deserves a reason to celebrate themselves at least one a year! Come in the week of your birthday and you'll receive half off the standard rate of your appointment.
What payment methods are accepted? Can I use my health insurance?
- First time clients booking online are required to pay in full to reserve the appointment. A card number will be saved on file to charge for future no-shows or late cancelations. Once you're on my client list, you can pay at the time of service (which is also when discounts will be applied).
- All major credit cards are accepted. Alternative payment methods include Zelle, Venmo, or CashApp. Electronic transfers don't count as cash for the cash discount.
I unfortunately cannot accept health insurance, L&I claims, or PIP as forms of payment.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
- The cancelation policy is HALF PAYMENT for less than 24 notice. If you cancel less than 24 hours before your appointment time, you will be responsible for half of the standard rate of your scheduled appointment.
- If you cancel with more than 24 hour notice, you'll receive a full refund if you paid online, and otherwise receive no penalty.
