Not your typical massage

BodyElements Massage will open the first week of October.

My name is John Mills and I'm a licensed Massage Therapist with a diverse background in anatomy, physiology, nutrition and psychology. I believe that the human body is a complex machine that requires assistance in functioning properly, especially as we age. Massage is but one tool to help in that process.

What can you expect when you visit me? I'm very professional in all aspects of my life. You will be protected, and I sincerely hope you will feel welcome too. At no time will I ever touch you without your express permission! Never going to happen. Matter of fact, I'll even explain why I need to go to this muscle or this joint before I ask permission to do so. My previous clients in Iowa told me repeatedly to just shut up and do it. Sorry, it may get redundant, but your SAFETY is my #1 goal. Too many therapists have breached their professional boundaries and that is never going to happen here.

Why am I different? First, I don't do relaxation massage (AKA Swedish). I find it boring and I'm not particularly good at it. I have an engineering background and love troubleshooting problems. Same goes with massage. You came to me because you are hurting and for whatever reason, nothing has helped in the past. I want to find out why and what is the root cause of the pain. There can be a plethora of reasons, and I will examine the obvious ones when you are on the table and as time progresses, I’ll delve deeper.

Unlike most other types of massages, I don't start you out face down. I'll explain why in person. I start face up and will spend 75% of the time working on the front side. When I flip you over, it's just to ascertain whether I accomplished anything or not. I also do pre and post exams. How can you tell if anything was improved unless there is a baseline to compare to? The exam takes up to 15 minutes before and after.

In a 90-minute appointment, you get 60+ minutes on the table. Sometimes it will be longer if you have the time. When I'm working, time is relative. Fixing the problem is much more important than following a rigid timeline.
