Find Balance Within

Meet your therapist.

My name is Mark Chisenhall and I represent Louisville Performance Massage. My goal is to help people bridge the relaxation gap to end the stress cycles for your mind, body, and spirit. Our daily life is full of activity, stress, and repetitive motions that cause stress in our body and leads to acute and sometimes chronic pain. We rarely have enough time for essential self-care practices, such as meditation and connecting more deeply to our body and spirit. It is my mission to help each person I treat to connect and understand their body, so that they can end the pain stress cycle.

I started studying massage therapy in 2011 in Louisville, but I have always been drawn to pain relief. Prior to starting massage school I have been studying martial arts since May 1985, primarily Chito-ryu karate. Martial arts are a main component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). My love of movement and meditation then led me to explore the arena of healing through holistic medicine. My opportunities starting out were working with athletes at Ironman LOU, CrossFit, and a host of other sports. Over time I was called to do more work with meridians, energy channels, and fascial network of the body. That then led to a higher good of working with expecting moms and babies. This is by far the most satisfying work I have experienced. I am so honored and grateful for finding this path.

In Apri of 2024 my life changed for the better when I took a leap of faith and began studying Craniosacral Therapy. This type of therapeutic treatment uses a very light touch to connect deeply into the body, mind, and spirit. It allows me to feel and see tension patterns that I never found before. I am also able to do in depth intra-oral  techniques. It is truly amazing how much tension is stored in the face and jaw. I have also been able to delve into an area that is so crucial to ultimately rid the body of pain, Somatoemotional Release. The stored trauma of our past lives in our tissues. Craniosacral Therapy is a very effective modality to end the cycle of pain and stress. In over a decade of treating people of all walks of life and all ages. From premature birth to assisting ailing 90+ year old loved ones, I have learned how to ease pain and bring comfort. I have taken 4 classes in total through the Upledger Institute. The most recent was Conception, Pregnancy, and Birth. I have more classes scheduled and will continue to advance my skills to facilitate healing.

Since 2012, I was partnered with the Ironman Louisville Massage team, for 8 years. I have supported various events such as The Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati, 10k runs at Ft, Knox, and numerous CrossFit competitions in Florence, Erlanger, and Covington, KY. Following the Covid-19 initial lock down I worked for a Chiropractic and Rehabilitation group in Northern KY for 2 years. This time period taught me so much more about the process of healing. In this setting I would see patients more often and in conjunction with 2 Chiropractors and 2 Physical Therapists. We treated a range of patients in pain from car accidents to severe Sciatic. Working closely and co-treating patients in the same facility provided me insight into what they do to treat the same injuries, and how the patients respond. The result I found is that soft tissue injuries require the healing touch of massage. This period of 2 years taught me what might have taken a decade or more to experience.

As well as continuing to study martial arts and bodywork, I am a father of 4, 3 exceptional daughters and 1 remarkable son. As well as, 5 granddaughters. I am extremely fortunate to have them in life to keep me in line. Everything I do now is with them at the forefront of my mind.

In addition to family, bodywork, and martial arts I have a deep love and need for nature and hiking. In 2017, alongside my youngest daughter and son, we hiked the Appalachian Trail. Then, In 2018, I ventured out on my own to hike 2,700 miles in 145 days to complete the Pacific Crest Trail. Finally, in 2019, I left the long distance trails of the U.S. and traveled to Scandanavia to hike in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, and Latvia for 6 weeks. My first love is hiking and camping at Red River Gorge in Eastern, KY, which began in 1982. I have also traveled to over 20 countries and 40 U.S. states in my lifetime. I was able to travel extensively while working in the airline industry for 15 years as a Customer Service agent, trainer, and eventually manager.

My life experiences have led me to be very curious and open to people of all backgrounds. I appreciate the diversity of all cultures as we all try to live our best life based on what we know, how and where we were raised. At the end of the day I would have to say that humanity is my religion and my country is the world.

My goal is to help your mind, body, and spirit Find Balance Within.

Respectfully,

Mark Chisenhall, BA, LMT, Kyoshi, 7th degree black belt karate, Owner Louisville Performance Massage.
