Well, if you\u2019re into football, that is.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Actually, here at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.massagebook.com\/\">MassageBook<\/a>, we are. And not just because one of our team members is a ridiculously huge (borderline annoying) Denver Broncos fan. (in case you haven\u2019t been paying attention, <\/span><i style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">her<\/i><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> Broncos are one of two teams playing in the Super Bowl Feb. 2).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">No, the real reason is that we appreciate sports and especially those who challenge their bodies and minds to do unfathomable feats. For some, that\u2019s just getting off the couch and going for a walk. For others, it involves multiple training sessions a day in order to be one of the best in the chosen sport. At either end of the spectrum, we salute the effort.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">But for all of these athletes \u2013 from pros to weekend warriors \u2013 massage therapy has a role to play. And as huge fans of massage therapists (even bigger than football!), we see a match made in heaven.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Athletes need an LMT like peanut butter needs jelly. You can eat the peanut butter by itself, but it tastes a whole lot sweeter (and goes down a whole lot better!) with the jelly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Some <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC2953308\/\">research<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> has shown there is not significant evidence of enhanced athletic performance or reduction in muscle soreness after athletic events because of massage therapy, but the research also shows &#8211; and we still believe &#8211; there is great psychological and physical benefit for athletes who engage in massage therapy and other stress-reducing activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">So here\u2019s a quick 5 reasons athletes should \u2013 and do \u2013 love massage therapy:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"><strong>A good athlete needs a quiet mind<\/strong>:\u00a0You\u2019ve probably heard the clich\u00e9 \u201csports is 90 percent mental, 10 percent physical,\u201d and probably disagreed if you just finished a tough workout or game. But any coach will agree that the mental side of a team or individual sport is key to peak performance. So, a therapeutic massage that allows athletes to <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsmedicine.about.com\/od\/injuryprevention\/a\/Sports_Massage.htm\">relax and clear their heads<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> so they can focus more and concentrate better on the mental and physical sides of the sport is ultimately going to be more successful.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Injury recovery is easier to handle:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Even if massage is not healing the muscles, many athletes will agree that <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.massagetherapy.com\/articles\/index.php\/article_id\/1620\/Sports-Injuries\">chronic pain management<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> aids in their performance or just makes dealing with the pain of recovery a little easier to swallow. Researchers have concluded that the psychological effect of massage therapy does positively impact athletes.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"><strong>Relaxed muscles perform better:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Massage combined with <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/physicaltherapy.about.com\/od\/flexibilityexercises\/a\/stretchbasics.htm\">stretching<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> can be very <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.runnersworld.co.uk\/beating-injury\/massage-qa-does-it-work\/7241.html\">effective<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> in helping muscles become more flexible, particularly immediately after massage. Warm, flexible muscles are much more desirable for athletes engaging in high-impact, high-energy or high-level sports. And cold, tight muscles generally scream at you.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"><strong>\u201cNo pain, no gain\u201d is a stupid philosophy:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">All of us have had an overzealous PE teacher who enjoyed saying that phrase while we were shaking on the pull-up bar, and most of us probably agreed the teacher was a dolt. Despite the popularity of that saying in sports, it\u2019s really not true. Pain is pain and keeps athletes from performing well\u2026and usually just leads to extended pain! Massage therapy can reduce pain, which always makes the opportunity for peak performance greater.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">An ounce of prevention is a pound of cure:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">We like clich\u00e9s when they apply, and this one applies. Doing anything to mentally and physically prepare your body to perform is useful for improving and avoiding injury.
