How Massage Therapists Can Still Connect With Clients This Mother's Day
- Amber Ludeman
- April 20, 2020
Because of social distancing and COVID-19, this Mother’s Day is guaranteed to be unlike any we’ve ever experienced. Whether your community is still on lockdown orders or lifting some restrictions in the coming weeks, virtually no one will be “back to normal” by May 10th.
However, that doesn’t mean you have to abandon your marketing efforts altogether. Sure, you’ll have to adapt your message and approach to align with the changing times, but you can use it as a way to remind others that moms everywhere are going to need help de-stressing once social distance is a thing of the past.
To that end, we’ve got ideas for emails, social media posts, graphics, gift certificate promotions, and other marketing plans you can borrow in any capacity to help your massage business connect with clients in meaningful ways this Mother’s Day.
Before we continue, we understand that everyone’s circumstances are unique during these uncertain times. Always consider your audience first, and use the suggestions in this resource guide in a way that’s appropriate for your business right now.
Promote Mother’s Day Gift Certificates Using Email Marketing
Email marketing is one of the simplest, most direct ways to let your clients know that gift certificates are still a great option this Mother’s Day. They can be safely purchased online from the convenience of home, and Mom can use her gift to kick back once you’re able to reopen your doors.
First, you’ll need to set up your Gift Certificates menu in MassageBook. You can watch the first few minutes of this video if you need help getting started.
Below you’ll find three marketing emails to help your massage business sell more gift certificates. Just copy and paste any you like into a MassageBook Campaign. A variety of Gift Certificate Campaign templates are available for selection when creating your email.
For now, we’re going to focus only on selling standard gift certificates. We’ll cover how to market gift certificate specials later on in the Promotions section of this guide.
Marketing Email #1

Header text: Celebrate Mother’s Day with a Massage Gift Certificate
Body text: Let’s face it. Between homeschooling, work from home, quarantines, lockdowns, strange weather and social distancing, moms everywhere could really use a break right about now!

We’ve made it super simple to give her the pampering she’s earned. A massage gift certificate will go a long way toward releasing her tension and increasing your chance of earning extra brownie points.

Post About Mother’s Day Gift Certificates on Social Media
Since a majority of people are using social media in unprecedented amounts right now, it’s a no-brainer to advertise gift certificates there too.
Below you’ll find three social media posts with captions and images that your massage business can grab and post today. They’ll help you stay top of mind with your clients while providing fresh, valuable content in the time of social distancing.
Make sure you’ve got the link to the Gift Certificates page of your MassageBook website handy. That will make it easy to include with your posts. And just like with the emails above, we’ll cover advertising gift certificate specials later on in the Promotions section of this guide.

Run Promotions & Specials on Mother’s Day Gift Certificates
A lot of people are strapped for cash right now, but they still might want to treat their moms to something special this year.
Sweeten the pot for those folks, and run a sale on gift certificates. Even the slightest amount off can go a long way towards getting more purchases, and you’ll get the money right away.
With MassageBook Promotions, you can sell gift certificates at a discounted rate, cap how many are available for purchase, and restrict how long the deal is active in order to create a limited time offer that’s bound to catch the attention of your clients.
Below you’ll find two ideas for gift certificate promos that your massage business can set up today.
First time creating a Promotion in MassageBook? Watch this video to see how it’s done.
Promotion Idea #1
Keep it simple. Offer $10 off gift certificates between May 1st - 10th.
Title: A Special Gift Just for Mom

The gift code is valued at the original price of the service. This offer is available through the end of Mother’s Day.
Promotion Idea #2
Run a flash sale. Offer 30% off gift certificates between Thursday, May 7th and Friday, May 8th. Limit the total to five purchases per day to create a sense of urgency.
Title: Mother’s Day Flash Sale

Once you’ve created a deal or two, make sure to share them through email and social media. You can use the marketing emails and social posts listed above as inspiration to get started. Tailor the subject lines, body text, and captions to suit the specials you’re running.
First time sending a Promotion through a Campaign? Watch this video to learn how to add the promo’s link to an email using a Blank Slate template.
When posting on social media, replace the link to your MassageBook website with the promo’s link instead so that whoever sees your post can easily access the deal.
Think Outside the Box This Mother’s Day
This is also a great time to remind your client base about virtual classes and other services that you might be providing during social distancing. Many massage therapists are getting creative by teaching online instruction in anything from self-massage to meditation to pain-relieving yoga poses. They’re also turning to retail products that can benefit clients at home.
Try incorporating any of your new projects into your Mother’s Day marketing. You can even use some of the techniques from earlier to get the news out.
Here are some ideas to get your wheels turning:
-
Host a virtual meditation or wellness class for moms only.
-
Set up individual sessions online to guide moms through self-massage techniques.
-
Send out tips and suggestions on how to pamper moms at home.
-
Sell a special blend of essential oils created specifically for Mother’s Day.
-
Create a Mother’s Day self-care kit using merchandise from your shop.
–
Mother’s Day is definitely going to be different this year, but that doesn’t mean it has to be any less special.
