I joined the Air Force upon high school graduation, hoping some
time and experience out on my own would bring me closer to discovering what
might be my calling in life. After four
years of service I was searching for a new direction. I received a massage and felt deep peace and
contact with myself. I began reading all
the resources I could on massage and related healing modalities. I attended massage school at California
Health Institute and towards the end, received a Craniosacral therapy session
and was deeply moved by the profound experience. My husband received military orders to RAF
Lakenheath, UK. We moved to England for
what was going to be a three year stay but turned into a seven and a half year
journey of deep personal process and discovery.
The thread weaved through three different trainings: College of Cranio-Sacral Therapy in London,
Karuna Institute for a short course in Craniosacral Biodynamics, and Cambridge
Body Psychotherapy Centre for Body Psychotherapy and Biodynamic Massage.
Combining Craniosacral Therapy, Biodynamic Massage, and
Integrated Therapeutic Massage enables us to find together, a treatment plan
where your immediate concerns can be met (muscular pain, tension stress
relief), but also, we work towards deepening into a process of connection with
the self and other (Craniosacral therapy and Biodynamic massage are seen to
contribute to a process of stillness and deep discovery, though there are often
immediate signs of relief such is in the treatment of headaches and migraines
for example).
Philosophically, therapies and approaches can be loosely
understood as being “Inside-out” or “Outside-in”. One is not better than the other, both ways
of working have their strength and place in effective treatment, the first way
of thinking employs a “listening” approach, whereas the second is more
interventionist—or therapist using a “technique”. Naturally there is often crossover. I work in a way that largely honors listening
from moment to moment to what the body is telling me needs to happen next and
then drawing on whatever skillset best will support this.
My unique combination of training and skill sets supports
people who are seeking more contact from their massage than what you may have
received say, at a spa or sports therapy center. It is not spa work, or purely deep tissue or
muscular work. We work at whatever
tissue level your body is currently most in need of. Yes, this is decided by you and by me. If you feel you are need of deep muscular
work, I will do the best I can to meet you there, at least some of the session,
but I will educate as to why gentle connective tissue work is necessary to help
your body access it healing resources and experience longer term benefit. It is a dance with the tissues—meeting them
moment to moment where they need to be met.
It is beyond not only your fixed desire for whatever you think you need
in a massage and also, what I think I know as a therapist. We work together.
Some of the particular concerns that come to me are migraines,
headaches, digestive disturbances, sleep disorders, stress or anxiety related
symptoms, lack of energy, depressive symptoms, fibromyalgia, symptoms of PTSD,
and those generally feeling that they have lost connection with themselves, and
are wanting to return to that place of balance.

In the early years, the hours of treatment work that I did were largely in the service of my own personal growth and development. I am always in the process of continuing personal development and feel that I now have a depth and richness of being to bring into relationship with the clients. Each session is an opportunity to heal and grow together.
