As a student at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine I was required to complete clinical hours set in a healthcare setting. Clients presented with diagnoses and medical histories which require setting up a treatment plan using massage therapy to benefit the clients according to their condition and long term benefit.
During this internship I massage members of the public in order to gain real world experience. This experience was instrumental in helping me during the beginning stages of my professional career.
As a massage therapist my focus is on helping people overcome chromic pain relating from the musculoskeletal system. The outcomes vary by factors such as the initial causes of pain, the factors causing reoccurrences of said pain, the overall health of the client prior and during the time of the session. I have experienced clients become very grateful for the time and dedication from myself and on their behalf to allow themselves the opportunity to benefit from massage therapy by understanding that massage therapy results vary and do not always show positive results overnight.
As a massage therapist I enjoy the sentiment of providing a service that can contribute to helping clients improve their health by decreasing their sensations of pain, even if temporary. I am fortunate to build a great clientele for whom I strive to create a therapeutic environment that encourages healing and self care. My experience has taught me that manual therapy promotes passive movement of muscles and connective tissues which are both beneficial. My continuing education consists of coursework that encourages critical thinking and how to better adapt massage therapy to each individual person.
