Massage was not the something I would have ever though was in my horizon as a career path but service of others I knew was. As I embarked on my employment journey knowing my heart and spirit of the work I wanted to do I found those that had some degree of meaning, ordering the deep spiritual need for fulfillment. From customer service and retail sales to cater to service needs, Greenpeace which was working towards a better environment for all or HIV Social Work catering to the needs of the most marginalized of population and integrating them into care and back into the fold of society, I was alway seeking to find meaning in work and the fulfillment I sought. Until the work of in social services was too much to bare and I year sabbatical left me questioning what I could do, what do I want to do and how could it benefit myself as equally as it would for other I wanted to help. Thus, upon receiving a massage through a gift given to me through a former partner, the idea came through…MASSAGE! Now I knew a little about massage and how it’s benefits aided some mental and emotion health needs as I myself used it for PTSD as well as a few basic physical benefits of body awareness and stress & tension relief. I had no clue about the many many other ways it could completely change a persons wellness and health that I would learn from my completion of my year in massage school at the Cortiva Institute, Seattle 2018. Immediately after completing my education In August 2018 I landed a great gig at the very reputable Intuitive Bodywork at the Dental Medical Building downtown Seattle executing clinical and medical massage services. Reinforcing my education in clinical reasoning and medical approach with massage, I quickly excelled in my massage execution and technique. Veraciously consuming all I could in massage and bodywork knowledge and taking relevant and skill enhancing continuing education courses I was the first male therapist to be fully booked at a month in. This was the opening I hadn’t known I need to start the endeavor of starting my own practice. Then, it happened…October 1, 2019 I became a fully self-supporting private practice massage therapist meeting my ideal and purpose of helping to healing and restoration of others, creating a beneficial work environment for my self and creating the kind or work-life balance I always dreamed of.
