Fascia is sheets and lines of elastic and plastic the follow the body's connective tissue. Myofascial release focuses on reversing fascial restriction by reopening the affected tissue to restore fluid flow, muscle function, and connection with the sensory motor system.
I am trained in Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) and (Post Isometric Relaxation (PIR). These stretching techniques are used to improve muscle elasticity and have positive effects on active and passive range of motions. Sometimes or brains forget how to tell our muscles, ligaments and joints that they can stretch further; or we can experience involuntary muscle guarding impeding our mobility and stabilization. With this technique, my clients can access increased range of motion in joints and lengthening of muscles.
Massage for peak performance. Sports massage focuses on preparation, recovery, and minor problem conditions. Pre-event/workout techniques relax tension while stimulating specific muscle groups. Post-event/workout sports massage is essential for recovery; increasing circular nutrition aides in soft tissue healing and elasticity. Anti-cramping techniques also help prevent injury and decrease pain. Effects may improve performance immediately and cumulatively.
Swedish massage involves light, gentle strikes that promotes relaxation and circulation. At Bodymechanics, we also learned aspects of the Swedish Movement System, or Swedish gymnastics. These additional techniques involve joint mobilization, stretching the fascia of associated muscles, and active and passive range of motion.
A trigger point is a tight area within a taute band of muscle. These can be painful and restrictive. Trigger point therapy involves isolated pressure and release along with gentle breathing techniques.
Pregnancy massage benefits mom and baby by increasing relaxation and circulation. Massage in the 1st trimester is great for reducing stress and relieving fatigue and nausea (Should receive permission from doctor or midwife). In the 2nd trimester massage may; aid in digestion, improve balance and orientation, and improve elasticity. Massage closer to labor and delivery calms the nervous system and relieves strain on weight bearing joints and muscles.
Massage protocols for injury treatment provide relief from complex pain syndromes. My instructor at Bodymechanics would encourage us to understand the WHY people are in pain. My goal is to reduce pain and inflammation while increasing; tissue repair, range of motion, and circulation. Massage treatments post injury helps loosen adhesions and reducing; pain, trigger points, and cramps or spasms.
