Leah graduated from the prestigious Berkana Institute of Massage Therapy in Denver, CO in May of 2013. Berkana Institute therapists view massage therapy as a form of fine art. Creativity, anatomical knowledge, the ability to palpably "listen" to the body, compassion, finely cultivated skill, holistic awareness, humility and respect are but a few of the characteristics that set Berkana Therapists apart from the Massage Envy masses. Leah's style of bodywork is an artistic process. Every human body is beautifully unique, therefore each of Leah's massages are as well. Massage sessions are creatively and mindfully crafted to address the needs of every client, so each session becomes a masterpiece. Berkana therapists utilize a concept we call "flowetry," which compares the movements, techniques, and energy of bodywork to a well written poem that flows seamlessly through rhyme and rhythm like a serene brook. Every technique is tied together with long, meaningful strokes so Leah's hands never leave the body, sending the client to a surreal meditative state. It is here, as the parasympathetic nervous system activates, that the body begins to heal itself. While Leah tends to work deeply into the innermost muscle groups, she understands that every client's pain threshold varies. She therefore periodically verbally checks in with the client to ensure that he or she is receiving the perfect amount of pressure to facilitate both relaxation and the release of muscle adhesions or "knots."
Berkana therapists do not claim to be healers. The human body is highly capable of healing itself if given the proper tools to do so. Therefore, we facilitate the client's path to healing by normalizing soft tissue- bringing blood flow to ischemic tissue, releasing muscular and fascial adhesions, increasing range of motion, reducing pain, mollifying mental, emotional and physical stress, and stimulating multiple bodily systems to facilitate homeostasis (please see the benefits of massage tab).
Leah's passion lies with nurturing others through artistic bodywork. Nothing is more satisfying than aiding in and witnessing the convalescence of the human body and mind.
She has worked with professional athletes, clients with acute and chronic injuries, expecting mothers, geriatrics, cancer patients, and adolescents.
