In 2004, I had the wonderful opportunity to work for Bud Schober, PT, PhD. at SunTree Physical Therapy. I was interested in pursuing a degree in Dietetics (Nutrition) at the time. He saw that I had a huge interest in everything that went on there so he taught me everything he could about Physical Therapy. He incorporated Massage Therapy into his practice and had phenomenal results. He taught Continuing Education courses in stretching combined with massage to licensed massage therapists and had me help him with his textbook. I am the model in his book and was the editor. That experience made me realize how awesome massage really is so I decided then that I'd go to massage school after college and that I probably wouldn't use it "that much" but it "would be fun as a side gig".
I went off to FSU (GO NOLES!) to finish my degree but then life happened... I got very ill for a few months. I had to withdraw from FSU and go home. I felt like a failure. I was crushed but recovered well from the illness. Then I remembered that I had wanted to go to massage school after college and thought that since my health had improved and I needed to wait until my withdrawals went through to go back to FSU, that I might as well do massage school in the meantime and be able to work as a therapist when I did go back. That ended up being the best decision I could have made. So in 2006, I attended Space Coast Health Institute. It was the most fun I'd ever had in school. I learned so much about natural health and medical massage and dove right into my career. I loved that I could use my skills to help others feel so much better and help people become active in exercise again, which then improved their health. I loved how massage was such an incredible tool to help people improve their entire body and their quality of life. I was hooked!
I still pursued my degree but worked as a massage therapist the entire time. I built my career and focused on Sports Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Medical Massage, PreNatal Massage and Pediatric Massage. I worked in many different massage settings including Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Gyms and Spas. I enjoyed every setting but found I had a passion for helping families. I also became a post-rehab fitness trainer and health coach out of my passion for health and wellness. I found those certifications to be very complementary to my work in massage therapy.
I provide massage in Jacksonville, FL at my beautiful clinic location in the Southpoint area of Jacksonville (across from St. Vincent's Hospital Southside near the JTB and I-95 intersection).
