I went to Brenneke School of Massage in 1990. Brenneke was the best massage school in the PNW to gain a working knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and massage techniques. This modality is perfect for an afternoon at the office or a health fair; also a favorite at retirement homes and hospitals in the break room. My chair is the most comfortable and easy to "fall into" to let your neck, shoulders, and back relax so I can get some serious kneading done to increase blood flow and ease tight necks, shoulders, backs, and arms/hands. I typically require a 3-4hr time commitment for groups yet I can use my chair at my office too.
A yummy experience to enjoy when it's cold outside or when you feel a desire to feel a "piece of the earth" to ground yourself...
This is always on my list to get joints mobile- esp. in the neck, shoulders, and hips. I can move your body passively (usually ideal in the initial set of treatments) and use active range-of-motion when I sense the time to strengthen a muscle group or a particular muscle belly.
This is almost like "energy" or "reiki" work. Intent-focused and very light touch to support a person's own healing process w/o getting in the way with what I think should be done. I follow in this technique; I do not lead.
I have pregnancy pillows/bolsters so a woman can lie face down while she is 7, 8, 9 months pregnant- what a gift that is!!!! That is therapeutic by itself! :-) When I was pregnant, it was a necessity to get massaged weekly- sometimes 2-3x wk because I was so swollen! Deep flushing is a must, as is lubricating and rotating the joints of the feet and hands. Also, it feels SO good to get your neck, shoulders, mid back, and low back massaged while you are carrying around a lot of extra weight in your torso. Please treat yourself, YOU deserve it, YOU are growing a little human!!!!
For the last 10yrs or so, I have referred to myself as a medical massage therapist. I believe that most individuals want massage to be more than just relaxing (although there is a therapeutic outcome with relaxation too) and that is primarily my intention when I lay my hands on someone- to assist in making a muscle move more efficiently or reduce P/soreness in a muscle belly, or break down adhesions on an attachment site...
After a surgery, or swelling due to overload of toxins in the body,, this modality is proven to be effective in reducing the swelling by very light touch and pumping toward your lymph nodes (behind your knees, by your groin, and around your armpits, clavicle, and neck). It's also beneficial after plastic surgery. I have had many clients heal much faster because they had this treatment done. Treatment is usually 2-3x/wk for an average of 3-6wks, depending on the situation.
Depending on the need, using any of these techniques is available to open up the joints, get deep in the tissues, and move the toxins out (esp. in the feet:-))
This is an AMAZING experience using 8 different DoTerra essential oils (high quality oils) to the back, head, and feet. It takes appx 40min for this service. All you do is breathe in and enjoy the scents and the effect (I have myself gone into La-La Land while getting this done to me- did you know our olfactory (nose)sense is the most primitive sensory we have????). You are lying face down the whole time and the oils are gently swept over your skin. It seeps into your cells and does it's magic!! A must to try some time when your smeller is working well :-)
These are all modalities I use in almost every massage because the fascia (connective tissue) that envelopes the body (the muscles to the skin) is almost always tight, sticky, and in need of release and movement. Also, there are always "hot spots" attached to muscle fibers on over-worked and under-stretched muscle bellies. Trigger Point Therapy is used to quiet those buggers down and allow for the muscle fibers to contract and lengthen with more ease.
