Born and raised in northern New Jersey, I started my life hands-on and physically active. I danced and sang as early as three years old. I did gymnastics throughout grammar school and high school. I studied martial arts at 15 until college. To say I like physical pursuits is an understatement. In college, when everyone else was studying for tests, I was drawing, taking art classes, performing in bands and dancing in clubs. I don't know how I graduated from William Paterson University, but I did. I got a degree in liberal arts which ended up being pretty useless. I went to law school for a semester and decided it wasn't for me. It wasn't exciting enough, and I was 23.
I joined the Air Force looking for excitement and adventure, but also some technical training. I scored really high on the ASVAB, so they suggested becoming a linguist. I learn languages pretty easily, so I decided to give it a try. I would travel the world, party like a rock star and train like one. That's not quite what happened. I scored in the top percentile on the language test, so they said I would either get put in Korean or Chinese. I wanted to get Chinese (good for business). The recruiting sergeant said I couldn't pick, but I would probably get what I wanted. I signed on for 2 years. Naturally, I got stuck with Korean. I ended up changing assignments to administrative work.
I was flown to Monterey, California which was the location of the language schools. It was outdoors and pretty with lots to do. It still had the leftover vibe from the hippie era - an era of alternatives, progressions and new ideas. This influence was starting to change me into a seeker of a more spiritual and holistic listyle.. I started becoming interested in the healing arts, meditation, yoga, vegetarianism and alternative medicine. Reading many books on these subjects, I realized that the body has a natural way of healing itself. Why not be a facilitator in that process? After being discharged from the Air Force, I took some massage, meditation and yoga classes.
I've always been fascinated with eastern medicine which emphasizes prevention over pills and cures. I studied and practiced a lot of eastern style massages such as shiatsu, reflexology and acupressure. I went to the California College of the Physical Arts to get my massage training and started working at a spa along with getting my own personal clients. I've always been a very intuitive, self-healing type person. I have this ability to be in touch with my body, my emotions and my thoughts. Why not pass this knowledge on to other people? As a massage therapist, I am able to bring people to that next level of awareness about their own physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.
With over 15 years of experience and over 1,000 hours of massage specific training, I am licensed and insured with AMTA. I know many styles of massage including swedish (relaxation), deep tissue (therapeutic), sports massage, trigger point therapy, shiatsu, lymphatic drainage, lomi-lomi (Hawaiian massage), stretching, reflexology, hot stone, aromatherapy and many more.
