Dr. Xia Chen has a unique background in both Eastern and Western culture, languages, and treatment modalities. Born in China, she came with her parents to the United States as a young girl. Educated in the United States, she served in the US Army stationed in South Korea and afterwards began a successful career as a dental hygienist. She felt the call to pursue the path of acupuncture during a chance visit to an acupuncturist, in which she accompanied a friend who needed her assistance in Chinese translation. She was impressed and inspired by the acupuncturist and the healing that her friend experienced.
Dr. Xia Chen studied at the Virginia University of Integrative Medicine in Fairfax and completed a four-year program of study in Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture, herbal medicine, Western medicine, nutrition and food therapy and Chinese bodywork. She has achieved licensure in Virginia and Maryland, and is recognized as a Diplomate of Acupuncture by the professional governing body, the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She has helped many patients with her broad clinical background in treatment of such conditions as relieving and managing pain, reducing gastrointestinal discomfort, improving sleep quality and balancing emotional distress. She believes everyone is entitled to better health.
